If you live in the Twin Cities and would like to have a consultation with Dr. Derr to deal with your pet's behavior problem, please call VBO at 612-360-7227. VBO's receptionist Jody will return your call, usually within 48 hours.
The all-important history forms can be downloaded here. They must be completely filled out and faxed or emailed to Veterinary Behavior Options at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment.
The consultation takes place at your home. Dr. Derr will have studied your pet's history form, and will observe its behavior first-hand. Her interpretation of your pet's actions will help you understand why it is misbehaving. She will then discuss ways to control the problem using behavior modification and environmental management. She may also discuss the pros and cons of using medication for your pet's problem. (If medication is indicated, it will be dispensed only after a consultation with your regular veterinarian.) The behavior modification plan will be tailored to your individual pet, and a full case write up will be sent to you and your vet. The consultation fee includes phone and email follow-up for as long as necessary to treat the original problem. If necessary, a reevaluation appointment can be scheduled at a later date.

How much does a behavior consultation cost?
You should expect to pay $330 to $380 for your behavior consultation with Dr. Derr. The fee does not include blood tests or the cost of medication, but does include follow-up by phone or email for as long as necessary to treat the original problem. If recheck appointments are necessary, the first one is included in the initial fee.
(All queries from potential clients will be answered, but we cannot respond to requests for help with behavior problems over the phone or by email without first establishing a valid veterinarian-client-patient relationship. Thanks for your understanding.)
